Things Jesus Never Said:

These days it’s easy to see life the way we want to. We can filter our images, pick the news we want to hear, and listen only to the viewpoints that agree with us. When we do that, we start to distort our view of the world. The same thing can happen to our view of God. We reshape our perception of Him into what we want to believe, or what we want to think about others. Jesus came to bring us the truth about God and His plan for us, and it doesn’t always sound like what you may think.

God, I am so thankful that because of Your Son, Jesus, I can live eternally with You. Your gift brings me joy and peace. Please help me to remember that my brokenness no longer defines me. I no longer have to live in fear of death because I will spend eternity with You. Help me to share this great news with others in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We believe and practice generosity in TIME, TREASURE and TALENT.Give Now Here Useful Thoughts WRESTLING One of the greatest strengths of Powers (Rulers) and Principalities (Authorities) is to convince us that the source of the problems we see in the world have nothing to do with Powers and Principalities. Whether it was Charles Baudelaire: "La plus belle des ruses du Diable est de vous persuadik qu'il n'existe pas!" ("The greatest trick of the Devil is to persuade you that he does not exist!"). Or Roger "Verbal" Kint from the movie the Usual Suspects "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist" the idea of spiritual forces hiding their existence is well known. But the Apostle Paul exposes to the world the truth in his letter to the Ephesians 6:12 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Paul’s words are so important: we don’t wrestle (struggle) against flesh and blood. The Powers are evil spiritual forces that take root in individuals, ideologies, and institutions, leading to a culture of deception, fear, dehumanization & death. To talk meaningfully about what’s happening in the Middle East from a Christian perspective is to reckon with this. To talk meaningfully about what is happening in our world from a Christian perspective is to reckon with this. What does this mean for me as I view the world? What does this mean for me as I view what happens around me? How do I prepare myself to face the world and everything that I have to face? Ephesians 6:13 13 Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. -Interacting with thoughts from Rich Villodas Don't give up! And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:18-20 NIV- When Jesus said, “Make disciples of all nations” - he wasn’t saying, “Win converts so that their souls would be saved for a future heaven.” He was saying, “Win people over to my way of living who live lives that reflect the justice of God - on earth as it is in heaven.” Don't give up! We believe and practice generosity in TIME, TREASURE and TALENT.Give Now Here Useful Thoughts BELIEVE & DO “Too many Christians are content to believe rather than do.” — Andy Stanley James 1:19-27 19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. 26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. Don't give up! We invite you to join us in praying for those affected and for the church as it responds. Nepal | Pray for those still missing and for the rescue efforts, especially as time becomes increasingly critical. Pray for wisdom and discernment as relief efforts are organized and aid is distributed honestly and equitably. Pray for those who have lost family members, homes, livelihoods, and communities. The road to recovery and rebuilding will be long. Pray for effective coordination between the government, NGOs, local communities, and first responders. Pray for the church. Pray that God would equip Beautiful Gate and other churches in Nepal to serve their communities well—with wisdom, courage, full and generous hearts, and a tangible display of the loving and generous God they follow.
